Tips for Packing Electronics Safely

We will explain how each item should be prepared and will offer our packing services. If you prefer to pack your electronics on your own, follow these easy tips.

  • Use a qualified service provider to remove and uninstall wall-mounted AV equipment.

  • Move electronics in original cartons with the original packing materials.

  • If you don't have original cartons, use packing materials that provide a good fit.

  • Cushion your items inside the carton with bubble wrap, paper padding or foam peanuts.

  • Consult your owner's manual for special instructions on Plasma and flat-panel TVs.

  • Take pictures of how the wires are organized behind your electronics so they’re easier to set up at your new home.

Steps for Being Prepared Before Your Electronics are Shipped

  1. Back up all software.
  2. Draw a simple diagram, take a photo, or tape color codes on wires to make reconnecting them much easier.
  3. Disconnect all wiring and cables.
  4. Wrap wires around themselves so they don’t get tangled.
  5. Keep components together, in clearly-labeled boxes.
  6. Pack wires and cables with their corresponding electronic units.
  1. Pack small accessories, such as remote controls, with each component. Or place them in a designated “Parts Box.” Note the box on the inventory list so small parts are not misplaced.
  2. Submit a list of your electronic components and computer equipment (with serial numbers) to your homeowner’s insurance company.
  3. Our agents cannot take down TV antennas or satellite dishes. If you wish, we can arrange for a professional to take care of it.

Tips for Setting Up Electronics Setup after Unpacking

  • Make sure you have all the necessary parts of your item before setting it up.

  • Use your diagram, photo, or colored tape to plug in the wires correctly.

  • Let your home electronics reach room temperature before plugging them in.

  • For TV and computer setup, follow the directions given to you to reinstall any software.
